This section dedicated only to provide an overview of one of our "bubbling under" ideas in the early stages of conceptualistation. We are going under the working title of "GROW YOUR OWN TV" as essentially it is all about D.I.Y entertainment focusing on niche areas of entertainment.
It is said Emperor Caesar once declared that in an effort to mind control the masses suggested “Circus & Cake” be distributed widely and freely. Our efforts are a counter reaction to this attitude, still on display today. Our aim? Simply; a voice from those who don’t like the circus and cake currently on offer.
Taking 108 musical genres, labels and resources of note, we aim to combine 108 other cool areas of research ideal for those seeking a break from the norm and having their entertainment spoon fed by corporate giants.
As such this is a platform for the little person (no pun intended), the lost forgotten, overlooked and worthy of note or coming through distinctively. We aim to produce a visual accompaniment and prelude to our planned future radio shows broadcast via YT as shown in the schedules provided below.
This concept is a work in progress, far from complete with lots of work and research needed first to underpin its very structure and foundations in these the "early days." By outlining the concept here we would hope to attract collaboration and interest on a number of levels and our main aim for this particular section of this blog is merely to provide a one stop shop to a brief explanation of the concept and all the it aims to encompass.
SO What’s the format Fergal? Daily at 6pm there will be a brief Google Hangout to reveal and advertise the contents of the later (8pm) radio / streaming TV show via the links provided. The first part is to be broadcast live using webcam and pre recorded footage to introduce potential viewers as to the night's offerings in terms of both proceedings and content.
Google Hangouts will be held Thurs - Sun over a 48 week schedule to represent one full season of the proposed concept of “Grow your own TV”. Each episode will cover a series of items we have made an alternative top 40 list for. Most days it is 2 x musical genres and 2 specialist features, the exception always being sundays where we investigate 3 x musical genres & Features alike.
Each night we will feature Ten selections from each genre in descending order and according to their chart position. So (for example) in the first show we will feature folk vs acid folk, meaning that later there will be a “Sub Culture Soundclash mix em up” - via the radio portion of the schedule - made up of Ten of each genre (20 tracks in all) and these would (in the first instance) represent the chart positions from 40 - 31 in both cases. The next time these genres would be featured is on a 13th week cycle and then be concerned with those occupying the chart positions of 30 - 21 and so on and so forth over 4 full cycles or 4 sets of 12 weeks.
The Hangout is to be live streamed by way of the established “eclecticsundaysocial” Youtube channel the aim is to reveal the tracks of the night in a little more detail, revealing information about the featured artist / band and / or the particular song itself.
Features will also delve a bit deeper giving backgrounds, reviews and recommendations for further resources.
The Youtube show will have minimal amount of actual media content to avoid copyright issues, instead opting to advertise the full show via that medium for the purposes of advertising, brand reinforcement and market penetration in terms of marketing and networking within the established and associated channels (such as the vinyl community, truthers and genre specific connoisseurs.)
The Radio / Live Stream Net TV Show format From 8pm UK time Thursdays to Sundays - 20 tracks daily come from the chosen (2 genres) meaning ten of each selected for use “in the mix”. The Only exception to this rule is Sundays when 3 genres & features are explored and thus an extra Ten tracks come into play.
Each day also features 5 pieces of my own vinyl plus tracks of 5 iconic labels meaning a daily additional ten tracks to use in all episodes. (30 in all, 40 on a Sunday show.)
In order to keep it interesting / entertaining and capable of producing a relatively seamless product in terms of alternative entertainment I will be structuring the show as broken down further below.
8pm - Digs in Space Selections - Real time Vinyl Archeology from my own collection searching for tunes to be used in this evenings set. We require 5 in total

Whether you are simply a fan of music generally or indeed a seasoned collector we would hope to bring something new and FRESH onto your horizons via our chosen mediums and our “Not for profit” endeavours.
Our aim is to promote the lesser known and finer moments in underground and counter culturalist movements through the ages and to encourage you to actively dig deeper yourself and then share as far and wide as you are able to support the newer or perhaps just less recognised talent from all over the planet.
From Vinyl Archaeology and real time beat excavation to the latest in “Digital Digging” we would hope to introduce you to a whole new world of entertainment and stimulation options that will far out-shadow any current programme composed of rehashed repeats and monotonous soap operas.
